Jalingo LG Chairman Launches Free JAMB Registration for Students

The Executive Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council, Hon. Nura Dantsoho, has launched a free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration programme for qualified students across the local government area in a bid to boost students' morale and expand access to higher education.

The initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians, is designed to support indigent and deserving students seeking admission into tertiary institutions. The council boss said the programme forms part of his administration's commitment to promoting education and securing a brighter future for the youth of Jalingo.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the programme coordinator, Attahir Yakubu, described the intervention as open-ended with no fixed closing date. He explained that the chairman had directed that eligible students be identified from all parts of Jalingo town and surrounding communities without discrimination based on religion, gender or social status.

Declaring the programme open, Hon. Dantsoho described the day as historic, noting that it marked the beginning of a formal collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, whose administration has prioritised free and quality education across the state.

The chairman assured parents and students that the free registration scheme is only the first in a series of educational interventions planned by his administration. He emphasised that education remains a top priority for the council and pledged continued support to ensure that more students from Jalingo Local Government secure admission into tertiary institutions, particularly Taraba State University.

According to him, investment in education remains one of the most effective tools for reducing crime and other social vices, stressing that empowering young people through learning would help curb theft and other minor criminal activities within society.

Some beneficiaries and parents expressed appreciation for the initiative. Mrs. Rose Tilo, a parent, described the programme as timely and impactful, noting that many families would have struggled to afford the registration fees. A student beneficiary, Munirat Abubakar Yarima, also commended the chairman for the opportunity and urged fellow beneficiaries to take their studies seriously. She further appealed to the council to sustain the programme and consider introducing scholarship schemes for outstanding students.
