Gov Kefas Inaugurates Fresh Appointees , Sets Performance Benchmarks

 Dr Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State, has inaugurated newly appointed officials, charging them to discharge their duties with integrity, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility to the people of the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the governor said the boards, bodies and commissions entrusted to the appointees were not ceremonial structures but critical instruments for driving development and improving the lives of citizens. He stressed that development commissions, in particular, must play a key role in promoting peace, food security and economic value across all sectors of the state.

Governor Kefas urged the appointees to work closely with local communities, traditional institutions, farmers and security agencies to ensure that development initiatives deliver quality growth and do not fuel conflict. He emphasised that infrastructure development must be people-centred, noting that projects should have tangible impact on lives rather than merely attract publicity.

According to the governor, compassion must be reflected in every policy and programme implemented by the new officials. He also charged the leadership of the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action to pursue excellence in research and innovation, with a focus on transforming agriculture, building climate resilience and preparing young people for future challenges. He challenged the institution to evolve into a university that would earn national pride.

On public health and environmental sustainability, Governor Kefas reiterated the importance of cleanliness and environmental restoration, describing them as essential to healthy living. He recalled remarks made during the President's visit to the state last year, which underscored the need for inclusiveness, proper sanitation and worker safety, directing that all workers must be adequately protected at all times.

The governor reminded the appointees that public office is not a privilege but a demanding responsibility, adding that performance would be measured by outcomes and practical solutions rather than speeches or excuses. He listed justice, fairness, transparency, discipline and integrity as the core values expected of all those appointed.

"I did not appoint you to work in isolation. You are appointed to complement one another. Our target is simple: results that the people can see and feel," he said.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Hon. Danladi Baido thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their loyalty and commitment to the development of Taraba State. He assured that the institutions under their leadership would promote accountable governance, empower citizens and work towards a safe, just and inclusive society.
