Pensioners Urge Governor Kefas to Implement Wage Adjustment

 

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Taraba State Chapter, has called on Governor Agbu Kefasto fulfil his promise of implementing wage adjustments for pensioners before the end of September.

 

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Comrade El-Nathan B. Auta, the union said it could no longer ignore the growing concerns of its members, noting that pensioners constitute a significant voting bloc in the state.

 

Auta explained that while the union remains committed to peaceful and lawful dialogue, members may be forced to stage a mass convergence at Government House if the governor fails to redeem his pledge by the end of the month.

 

The statement also dismissed Mahmoud Yaro and Paul Tyav as impostors, accusing them of seeking cheap popularity and attempting to undermine the integrity of the union.

 

Comrade Auta reaffirmed the pensioners' support for Governor Kefas's peace initiatives but urged the governor to personally intervene in the union's internal crisis and take action against those allegedly working against his administration's efforts.

 

 

"The imposition of N1 million as tax clearance fee is an intentional ploy to edge out credible opposition candidates. It is a calculated attempt to frustrate our aspirants financially and create an uneven playing field," Tukura said.

 

The APC further alleged that TSIEC, under its chairman, Chief Philip Duwe, was failing in its duty to conduct a free and fair election. The party warned that such practices could disenfranchise large sections of the electorate and undermine democracy in the state.

 

"We are witnessing a dangerous pattern where key electoral processes are being manipulated to favourthe ruling party. This undermines democracy and must not be allowed to stand," the statement added.
