Second Anniversary : We Are Making Progress, Gov Kefas Says
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reiterated his commitment to building a practical and inclusive future for the state, ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt by all citizens.
Speaking during a town hall meeting to mark his second year in office, the governor emphasized that while much has been achieved, the journey is far from over.
"Two years ago, I made a commitment to lead not with perfection but with compassion and courage, and that commitment stands firm today. Over the past two years, we have laid a foundation, quietly, intentionally and with you at the centre of it all. Our plan for the future is practical, inclusive and bold", Agbu said, addressing a crowd of stakeholders and residents.
Governor Agbu outlined several initiatives aimed at fostering transparency, inclusivity, and development.
These include monthly public briefings by the Ministry of Information, full public reporting via TAGIS, strengthening the tourism sector, boosting agribusiness, expanding vocational training, and celebrating what he called the state's "unsung heroes"—teachers, farmers, healthcare workers, youths, and mothers.
Among the key achievements highlighted by the governor are the completion of the Jalingo Ultra-Modern Market, the Trailer Park, extensive renovations at the College of Agriculture in Jalingo, and the upgrading of Danbaba Suntai Airport, which was recently commissioned by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
He also cited the construction of 60 modern schools across the state, the introduction of free and compulsory primary and secondary education, a 50% reduction in tuition fees at the tertiary level, and the deployment of hundreds of patrol vehicles along with modern tracking tools to strengthen border security.
"In public service, we have implemented transformative reforms, introduced the new minimum wage structure, ensured prompt payment of salaries, cleared arrears dating back to 2010–2013, and provided running costs to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
"The health sector was in a dire state when we took office. We have since initiated the construction of new facilities at the College of Nursing and Midwifery and commenced a complete modernisation of our healthcare system to ensure quality service delivery", he said.
In agriculture, the administration has provided farmers with direct access to improved seeds, mechanised irrigation, and training aimed at enhancing productivity and bolstering food security across the state.
Governor Agbu expressed his appreciation to the people of Taraba for their unwavering support over the past two years and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering good governance.
He also welcomed constructive criticism, stating that it is vital for the growth and sustainability of democracy.
