Teachers Hail Gov Kefas over Achievements in Education Sector

The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT Taraba State Wing has added their appreciation to the Governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas over the giant strides he has recorded in the state within the first year of his administration especially in the education sector and his positive disposition towards the union which has ensured smooth running of its activities.

The Governor's positive achievements in education sector and positive improvement in the union cannot be overemphasized.

According to the State chairman of the Union, Comrade Solomon Nathan, apart from the declaration of the free education in the state that gave the common people in the state access to education, the Governor has accorded top priority to any matters of the union especially ensuring meeting the needs and demands of the teachers.

Under the watch of the Governor, the 100% minimum wage at the primary school level was implemented as well as payment of 5% of TSS.

Another laudable achievements of Dr Agbu Kefas with impacts on the union was the re-instatement of teachers sacked by the immediate past administration on the basis of trade union politics. Indeed this gesture has not only restored the lost glory of the union but boosted the system.

Agbu Kefas also made the union proud by considering it as the only teachers trade union which gave it confidence and sense of belonging.

Gov Agbu Kefas has sponsored some members of the NUT on various workshops and capacity development both within and outside the country.

The Governor has Pledged to offset backlog of the teachers salaries and other entitlements.

Like Oliver Twist, NUT still appeals to the Governor for the following: need for annual increments and implementation of promotions for efficiency of the system and catering for Universal application of TSS at 100% in all education levels, this will also rate his Excellency as the first Governor to effect this in the whole country.

The Union also calls for the abrogation of ASUSS, a splinter group that started in Benue, Kogi, and Taraba States and now exist only in Taraba state.

"Prompt payment of primary schools teacher's salary as a means of motivation and encouragement and provision of 18 Seater Bus to the union to support the good intention of the government through effective monitoring and supervision."
