Dr. Agbu Resumes As Acting Rector Of Taraba Poly

·         Group Make Case For Central Zone In Polytechnic Management

Dr. Amos Agbu has been appointed as the new acting Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai.

Dr. Agbu appointment follows the expiration of the tenure of the former Rector, Dr. Ayuba Ibrahim Abarshi on 13th May, 2024 after a successful four years of leadership at the institution.

Dr. Agbu, before his appointment as the acting Rector, was the former Deputy Rector Administration of Taraba State Polytechnic, where he served and completed his tenure, and also he served as former Dean School of Engineering, as well as one-time Head of Department, Electrical, Electronic Engineering.

He holds a Ph.D in Electrical Electronic Engineering at Moddibo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State. And joined the Taraba State polytechnic as a lecturer and raise to the leadership position.

Also, the former Registrar of the polytechnic, Comrade Ignatius Innocent Jellason, whose tenure elapsed since December 2023, is replace by Mr. Kwesinde Biki as the new acting registrar of the polytechnic.

However the Sardauna Peace Youth Organization (SPYO) has plead to the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas to consider appointing Mr. Genesis Nyibal as the substantive  Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai.

According to Comr. Idrisu Yahyah, the leader of SPYO, the position of Rector at Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai is meant to rotate among different zones. However, since the institution's inception in 1992, only one rector has ever been appointed from Taraba Central. The majority of rectors have been appointed from Taraba South and North. Currently, the acting rector is also from Taraba South, which SPYO views as an regional imbalance in the institution's leadership.

The group argued that current key positions at the institution are as follows: Acting Rector, Amos Agbu; Deputy Rector of Administration, Mrs. Tanni Yavala; Acting Registrar, Mr. Kusinde Bike are all from Southern zone while the Deputy Rector of Academics, Mr. Paul Nathane and the Bursar, Mrs. Mary Dahan are  from the Northern.

"Given this distribution, SPYO believes it is high time for the substantive rector position to be zoned to Taraba Central, specifically to the Sardauna local government area on the Mambilla Plateau. This move would ensure a more balanced and equitable representation within the institution's leadership.

"SPYO expresses its sincere hope that the executive Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, will consider and grant their request to appoint Mr. Genesis Nyibal as the new Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai. This appointment would not only correct the perceived imbalance but also promote unity and fairness within the institution," the group said.
