Community Youths Accuse Gankwe AssenWard Head Of Extortion

 

The Gankwe Assen Community Youth Association in Donga Local Government Area have accused its Ward Head (Mai Anguwa) Bala Ishaku of extortionand unlawfully detaining them   using his power as the ward head of the community.

 

The Youths in an open letter also accused Mr. Bala Ishaku of forcing over 70 people to pay the sum of ten thousand Naira each before they will be allowed to use and farm their farms which they inherited from their great grandparents. 

The open letter signed by Dwaga Dan Asabe, Akenmoti Dantata and three others said that mostpeople in the community had earlier rejected Mr. Bala Ishaku appointment as ward head but he however, forced himself into the leadership of the community

 

 "By now 19 people have forced to paid that money for the reason best known to him, in his illegal means of extortion, he makes unwarranted arrest of our youths and anyone who ask for a reason of his arrest will be dealt with severely.

 

"Presently, there are some of our youths he detained at the police station in Mararraba Police Outpost for not paying their 10 thousand Naira as he instructed.

 

"Mr. Bala Ishaku collaborated with Magistrate Court in Mararraba and one Mr Timenoage Gimba which they formed a committee beating and intimidating anyone who fall a victim of their illegal actions. They go around farms intimidating farmers and extorting money from them. Some residents came back to their houses after peace has been restored to the community but for them to farm, they have to pay MrBala Ishaku," the statement reads in part.

 

The youths call on Governor of Taraba State Dr. Agbu Kefas, Commissioner for Justice and Anthony General Taraba State, the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State Command, His Royal Highness, the Gara Donga and other stakeholders to treat thisissue as a matter of urgency in order to breakdown of law and order in the community.

 

 

"It's important for the government, police, and other authorities to take these claims seriously and investigate the matter thoroughly. This is not only to protect the safety and rights of the community members, but also to prevent further unrest and violence from occurring."
