What Gov Ishaku Should Do Before Seeking For Forgiveness - Residents, Politicians

Residents and politicians in Taraba State have called on Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to complete all ongoing projects initiated by his administration before seeking forgiveness from the people of the state. They also want him to reconcile with many Political actors who helped him into power in 2015.

 

Governor Ishaku has once again, apologized and pleaded for forgiveness from Taraba State Politicians whom he might have stepped on their toes in the course of discharging his duties as the Governor of Taraba State.

 

The governor made the call in Jalingo while speaking at a Thanksgiving/Farewell Service organized in his honour by the Taraba State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN.

 

This is the second time the governor had gone before a congregation to publicly seek forgiveness from politicians and the entire people of Taraba State on issues and areas he might have offended them.

 

The governor had few weeks back, knelt before the Congregation of Anglican Church Mayo Dasa Jalingo, during a Special Easter thanksgiving Service, where he noted that as a leader who had led the state for almost eight years, it was likely that he might had offended so many people either knowingly or unknowingly in the course of discharging his duty.

 

Governor Ishaku at the service, pleaded that whereever he had gone wrong, he should be forgiven, especially that the act was one of the expected cardinal virtues of all christians.

 

At CAN Secretariat, the governor reiterated that whoever he had stepped on his or her toes, should forgive him, insisting that wherever such occured, it was not deliberate but circumstances that surround the number one seat of the state.

 

"Some times, you will be doing your best but people will misunderstand you. We feel that everything we did in the course of our administration was for the best interest of the state. However, I want to state that whoever I have stepped on his/her toes in the course of discharging my duty, the person should forgive me.

 

"I have also forgiven everybody that offended me in one way or the other during the administration. My prayer is that God should keep us together in good health". He added.

 

But residents who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Reporter said the Governor needs to do more than public apologies before the people of the state could forget the agonies of his administration.

 

"The governor have more than 30 days to still do some magic, how can the people of Yorro feels when they see that Pantisawa road is yet to be completed, the Water project in Jalingo is yet to be supplying residents water after huge billions were spent on the project, many uncompleted projects are littering the state, the Governor should make efforts to complete them before begging for forgiveness," Gabriel Musa said.

 

 

Pastor Ayuba Kona said the governor needs to beg the people because it's obvious he knows the electorates who elected him twice as governor are disappointed at his performance.  "But he needs to do more than going from Churches to Churches begging for forgiveness, will pensioners, lecturers, local government workers and even some of his appointees forgive him? There's something called restitution. The Governor needs to do restitution with the people, return to them what belongs to them before the people can forgive him."

 

A lecturer at the Taraba State University said   if the Governor needs forgiveness from Taraban "let him not even go to church or mosque to embarrass himself but pay us our entitlement and salary, who will forgive a governor who still refuse to pay our salary for Months."

 

A chieftain of the PDP, Hon Sani Sambo said the governor was never fair to those who assisted him into power in 2015 as many of them have left the party.

"If truly Governor Ishaku is serious with his apologies he should start with those who helped him won his elections in 2015 and 2019, he frustrated many of them out of PDP, those who remains in the party were abandoned and not given their dues, Governor Ishaku mess up many politicians in the state over unnecessary gossips the Governor should call them and apologies to them too

 

"The people of Southern Taraba has spoken by rejecting him at the poll, Governor Ishaku should visits all the local governments and face the villagers to forgive him," Sambo said 

 

Former Taraba State CAN chairman and Anglican Bishop of Kaduna Bishop Timothy Yahaya, who preached  at the CAN Thanksgiving ceremony  urged Governor Darius Ishaku to set aside his ego and do everything possible to reach out to all the politicians he feels he had offended and reconcile with them through round table discussions.

 

The Bishop also appealed to politicians in the state to always throw their doors open to accommodate those who come to them for reconciliations, adding that the act was the best way to please God.
