Democracy Day: Activist Writes Gov. Ishaku on Plights of Gassol Residents

The Acting Secretary Eyes on Democracy of Nigeria, (EDON)  Taraba state Chapter Comr. Mansur Munkaila Jirgi has called on Governor Darius Ishaku to create more programs that will push towards alleviating poverty from the people of the state. 

 

Comr. Mansur Munkaila Jirgi in a Democracy Day letter to the Governor called for urgent actions to create more jobs based on the recently released report by the National Bureau for statistic which indicates Taraba state as second in the poverty ranking in Nigeria," we are not surprise considering the high level of unemployment mostly among women and youths in the state. 

He urge the state government to focus on creation of more employment and empowerment programs; prompt payment of Local Government salaries; putting more capital project on ground for the benefit of the people.

Commending Governor Ishaku as a friendly and a peace loving leader, Comr. Mansur Munkaila Jirgi however pointed out some government decisions people of Gassol Local government are not happy with.

 

The letter reads in part: " Your Excellency Sir, our political elites and Traditional rulers might not tell you the exact feeling of the people of Gassol Local Government, particularly Gassol Constituency One, but for us in the civil society  it's our responsibility to tell you that the majority of peace loving people of Gassol one are not happy with the creation of  kwararafa Chiefdom and by telling you the exact felling of their mind I have Discharge my responsibility.

 

"It's on record that since the return of Democracy in 1999 the people of the area have been giving your able party, People Democratic Party (PDP)  the majority vote coming out from the Local Government  but during your tenure the constituency have suffer a lot from the above decision as it's against the wish of the people of the area.  

 

"Gassol one Despite its contribution towards the economic Development of our state and the nation at large,  the constituency is still batting from the lack of accessible road leading to it major villages like Gassol, Sendirde, Wurojam which produce at least 5-7 million bucks of farm products in every year. 

 

"Your excellency sir, the people of Gassol local Government are sincerely grateful for connecting the area to national grid but I will also like to bring it to your notice, the electricity didn't go to Gassol District but only stop at Gassol 2 and we therefore appeal to your able leadership to extend the hand of mercy by connecting the other part of the Local Government for the purpose of equity. 

As a matter of fact, His Excellency may wish to independently verify the above asserted matters contain in this letter."
