Breaking News: APC Moves To Stop Taraba LG Election

The All Progressive Congress APC in Taraba State have  commence moves to stop the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) from conducting the forthcoming local government election on June 30, Taraba Truth and Facts exclusively gathered.



The APC has written to Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr Philip Duwe seeking for the postponment of the election citing short notice. 

The commission however did not respond to the APC letter, Taraba Truth and Facts gathered.

The APC, Taraba Truth and Facts gathered will be approaching the Court for an injunction stopping the conduct of the election on Saturday June 30.

The APC is yet to conduct it's primary election for it's candidates to emerge while the ruling PDP will be forwarding it's list of candidates to TSIEC in coming days.

The APC leadership in the state is expected to address a press conference today to officially states it's position on its participation in the election.

A source in the APC told Taraba Truth and Facts that  the party might suspend it's participation in Taraba LG election over lack of funds and poor preparation


Taraba Truth and Facts had earlier reported that poor preparation lack of campaign funds and synergy amidst stakeholders  might hinder the chances of  All Progressive Congress APC in Taraba State from making outstanding performance at the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Meanwhile the Chairman of Taraba state Independent Electoral Commission Dr Philip Duwe says they are ready to conduct a free and fair local government election in the state.

Dr Philip who was speaking with our correspondent in Jalingo said the election process began since February this year but was suspended because of the covid 19 lock down .

He said the commission has met with the leadership of political parties in the state and agreed that election will hold on the 30th of June twenty twenty.

The chairman explained that the commission has put in place strict measures to observe all safety precautions against the spread of covid 19 .

According to him hand sanitizer will be provided to all pooling units of the state and face mask will be made available for the people .

Duwe noted that social distancing shall be observed during all electoral processes to ensure the safety of all.

He said recruitment of adhoc staff for the election is ongoing and disclosed that their training will soon began.

For easier administration the chairman said adhoc staff will be recruited in the various local government area of the state and trained there.

Duwe said the commission has met with various security agencies and discuss on providing adequate security for the election.
