AA, APGA, SDP Set to Battle PDP in Taraba LG Poll

APC will lose grassroot supports for boycotting election- Aspirant
Seventeen of the eighteen political parties registered in Taraba State will be participating in the State local government council election slated for June 30.
Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), Dr. Philip Duwe, disclosed on Friday.
Dr. Duwe, who brief journalist said four of the 17 parties have already concluded their primaries, purchased forms and screened their candidates.
It was gathered that the Action Alliance (AA), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have already bought forms, screened and submitted names of their successful candidates.
The TSIEC boss said: "17 political parties have indicated interest to participate in the election. They have even given their support in writing.
"AA, APGA, PDP and SDP have already bought forms and screened their candidates.
As I speak to you, the electoral materials have started arriving into the State capital. The sensitive materials are on the way from Abuja and the east. All is set for the polls," he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), however, said it would boycott the election, a Chairmanship aspirant of the APC said the Party has lost its grassroot supporters for taking the decision.
In stopping the spread of Coronavirus during the election, Duwe said all the voters and electoral officials will wear face masks, use hand sanitizers and maintain social distancing orders.
"They will be not more than 20 voters per line, to avoid crowding. We are supplying 2000 sanitizers to each of the 1911 polling units in the State".
"There will also be face masks, hand gloves and sanitizers for the electorate, yet they will maintain social distancing protocol.
The arrangement for security has been done. The State commissioner of police has discussed with his men. We are holding a joint meeting tomorrow," Duwe said.
As the fourth coming local government election in Taraba State comes closer, preparations are on top gear by various political parties in the state to ensure success.
Former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan, a stalwart of People's Democracy Party PDP arrived Danbaba Suntai Airport Jalingo in a charter flight Friday afternoon to add weight on the ongoing campaign train of the party.
Senator Aisha Alhassan who returned to People's Democracy Party PDP from United Democratic Party UDP after the 2019 general election was received at the airport by hundreds of party faithful and her supporters.
Maman Taraba as she fondly called who believes in grassroot politicking was said to have arrived Jalingo to support PDP quest for clinching chairmanship and councillorship seats during June 30th local government election.
A closed ally to the former minister who prefer anonymity confirmed that she is in Jalingo to assist PDP to win the election as she always pulled mammoth crowd in campaigns and boost popularity of candidates.
Senator Aisha Alhassan played a vital role in the last local government election in Taraba State when she was in APC as she led a house to house campaign in canvassing votes for her former party. The APC through her support was able to win some seats and made meaningful impact at the election.
Those who received Maman Taraba at the airport include former chairman of United Democratic Party UDP Alhaji Sani Chul, Special Adviser to Governor Ishaku on Inter-government affairs Hon. Isma'ila Yusha'u Maihanci, former commissioner of justice Barr. Sadiq Umar, former member of Taraba State House of Assembly from Jalingo one constituency Hon. Nura Dantsoho, Jalingo based business man Alhaji Sintali Usman among others.
