Gashaka Salary Arrears: Human Rights Team Seeks Payment to Affected Families, Retirees
A Human Rights team led by Hon. Aliyu J. Jalo has called for the payment of salary arrears reportedly owed to families of deceased workers and retirees in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The team visited Gashaka to meet with affected families and retirees following reports that some beneficiaries had not received payments despite the approval of the arrears by the Taraba State Government.
During the visit, the matter was brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, who reportedly directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.
According to the statement, the investigation uncovered several irregularities involving deceased workers’ families and retirees who were reportedly excluded from the payment.
The DC CID subsequently invited some of the affected persons from Gashaka to his office, where they presented their complaints. The statement said the police officer confirmed that some of the complainants had not received their payments.
Following the development, an investigative committee was reportedly constituted to visit Gashaka Local Government Area, investigate the cases further and facilitate payment to those found to have been unjustly excluded.
The statement identified some of the affected workers as Ibrahim Magaji of the Administration Department, Hurera Shuibu of the Health Department, Mohamed Ishiyaku of the Finance Department and Musa Mamman of the Administration Department.
The group commended Jalo and members of the Human Rights team for intervening on behalf of the affected families and retirees.
It also appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to extend the investigation to other local government areas to determine whether similar cases of non-payment or exclusion exist.
The group said such a review would help ensure that families of deceased workers and retirees who are legitimately entitled to the approved arrears receive their payments.
