Federal High Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Disqualify Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi from Future Elections
The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to bar Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi from contesting any election, ruling that the case lacks merit.
The suit, filed by Barr. Bashir Badmus on behalf of the Incorporated Trustees of Taraba State Progressives Front against Abubakar Sani Danladi (Suit No: FHC/JAL/CS/7/2026), sought the disqualification of the Senator from all future elective contests.
Delivering a landmark judgment on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Justice Mashkur held that Senator Danladi’s previous disqualification in 2019 was strictly limited to that particular election cycle. The court clarified that the earlier ruling was a pre-election matter and did not constitute a permanent ban.
“The disqualification of Sen. Sani Abubakar Danladi in 2019 was specific to that election only. It was not a perpetual bar,” Justice Mashkur ruled.
Consequently, the court affirmed that Senator Danladi remains fully eligible to contest for any elective position now or in the future, subject to the provisions of extant laws and the Electoral Act (as amended).
Reacting to the judgment, Senator Danladi described the various legal cases against him as the handiwork of political detractors and opponents seeking to manipulate the judiciary for political ends.
“All these sponsored political calumnies failed in 2019 and 2021 before courts of competent jurisdiction. Indeed, the judiciary remains the hope of every man,” the Senator said.
Supporters of the former acting governor said the ruling effectively clears the path for Senator Danladi to participate in future elections without legal hindrance from the issues raised in the dismissed suit.
