UMCN Plans University In Banyam

The United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN) has concluded plans to establish a university in Banyam, Karim Lamido Local Government area as part of efforts to expand its educational and spiritual outreach.

The Bishop of the United Methodist Church Nigeria Episcopal Area, Bishop Ande Emmanuel, disclosed this during an episcopal visit to the Central Nigeria Annual Conference, where he inspected the site of the proposed institution at BanyamTheological Seminary (BTS).

The planned university, according to the Bishop, is aimed at raising a new generation of leaders grounded in faith, knowledge, and service, equipped to make meaningful contributions to both the Church and society.

The visit, described by members as both administrative and deeply spiritual, forms part of a broader effort by the Church leadership to revitalise dilapidated mission infrastructure and reposition the Church for greater impact.

As part of his itinerary, Bishop Emmanuel also supervised the commencement of the United Methodist Church Secretariat in Gwaten, a project he described as a symbol of unity, order, and effective stewardship in advancing God’s work.

Speaking during the visit, the Bishop emphasised that the Church’s mission goes beyond words, stressing the need for faithful action guided by divine purpose.

“We are called to faithful service under God’s direction. Every step we are taking is driven by the commitment to serve God, uplift His people, and advance His kingdom,” he said.

The Bishop was received in Bambur by a large gathering of clergy and members, in what observers described as a warm and spiritually uplifting welcome marked by joy and reverence.

Among those who received him was Rev. Masadu Makila (Rtd), pioneer General Superintendent of the United Methodist Church Nigeria Episcopal Area (1977–1982), whose presence underscored the legacy and continuity of the Church’s mission.

Church members and observers noted that the ongoing episcopal visit reflects a period of renewal and renewed vision, with Bishop Emmanuel’s leadership described as prayerful, purposeful, and result-oriented.

They expressed optimism that the proposed university and other ongoing projects would further strengthen the Church’s role in education, leadership development, and community service.

The episcopal visit is expected to continue across the conference, with activities focused on spiritual renewal, infrastructure development, and strengthening the mission of the Church in Nigeria.
