Loyalists Raise Alarm Over Alleged Disloyalty, Says Appointees Working Against Gov Kefas Re-election

Tension continues to build within the political camp of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, as core loyalists intensify complaints over alleged marginalisation and rising internal sabotage ahead of the 2027 elections.

Key figures within the governor’s 2023 grassroots campaign structure have accused the administration of empowering political opponents at the expense of loyal supporters who worked for his electoral victory.

A prominent grassroots mobiliser, Mr. Aruba Maji, said the governor’s decision to run an all-inclusive government after his election led to the appointment of individuals who had supported Senator Emmanuel Bwacha during the 2023 governorship election.

According to him, many of those beneficiaries have now reverted to their former political alignment following Bwacha’srenewed political moves within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the general election.

“What we are seeing today is a clear betrayal. People who worked against the governor were rewarded with appointments and patronage, while those who mobilised for him were sidelined, but see how they are openly and secretly supporting Governor Kefas’s opponents” he said.

Maji alleged that some of the appointees are still serving in government but are quietly working against the governor’s second-term ambition.

Coordinator of the Kefas Village-to-Village Campaign, Mrs. AdiBature, echoed similar concerns, stating that loyal supporters have been largely ignored despite their contributions.

She further alleged that some individuals currently aligning with the governor are doing so only to secure party tickets ahead of the next election cycle.

“Some people are merely with Governor Kefas today because they want party tickets. The moment they don’t get those tickets, they will return to their former political boss,” she said.

Bature claimed that intelligence within the political structure indicates that meetings are already being held by some appointees and party figures to strategise against the governor in the next election.

 

“In fact, some of them are already holding meetings and planning against him. These are people benefiting from his government but working for the opposition behind closed doors,” she added.

 

The loyalists warned the governor against rewarding such individuals with party tickets, insisting that doing so could further weaken his political base.

 

They urged Kefas to prioritise those who demonstrated loyalty during the 2023 elections and to reassess his political strategy ahead of 2027.

 

The group also called for a thorough review of appointments and internal party structures, alleging that elements loyal to Bwachahave taken control of key positions within the PDP in the state.
