Taraba Govt Begins Five-Day Capacity Workshop for Senior Civil Servants, LG Chairmen

 

The Taraba State Government, under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas, has commenced a five-day capacity-building workshop for senior civil servants, permanent secretaries, directors and local government chairmen across the state.

 

The workshop, which began on Wednesday, is aimed at reforming the state civil service and strengthening local government councils to improve effective and sustainable service delivery.

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Governor Kefas said the training was designed to address structural weaknesses within the state's civil service and reposition it for efficiency and accountability. He noted that his administration inherited several setbacks in the civil service structure, which necessitated decisive actions, particularly in tackling the issue of ghost workers and improving staff welfare.

 

According to the governor, reforming the civil service remains central to his administration's agenda, stressing that a motivated and efficient workforce is critical to delivering quality governance to the people of Taraba State.

 

In his remarks, the Head of the Taraba State Civil Service, Dr. Hamidu Kara, commended Governor Kefas for what he described as the administration's strong commitment to manpower development. He appealed to the governor to approve the continuation of the renovation of the Taraba State Secretariat in Jalingo to further improve the working environment for civil servants.

 

Dr. Kara also noted that the training would strengthen the capacity of local government councils across the state, thereby enhancing sustainable service delivery at the grassroots level.

 

Similarly, the Director of Training in the Office of the Head of Service, Dr. Tijo Kenneth Mingeh, said the workshop would serve as a morale booster for participants while also building their capacity for improved performance in public service.

 

The five-day workshop is expected to bring together key administrative officials from across the state to share ideas, enhance skills and align governance practices with the reform objectives of the Kefas administration.
