Gov Kefas Appoints Members of Taraba Disability Commission

Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the appointment of members of the Taraba State Persons with Disability Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening inclusion and institutional support for persons living with disabilities across the state.

The approval was conveyed in an official press release issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State, Chief Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps.

According to the statement, Comrade Matudi Ali, who is visually impaired, has been appointed as Chairman of the Commission. Other members appointed are Adama Idris Hamza, Inu Gayus, Matthew Danladi, and Ibrahim Haruna.

To ensure balanced representation, the commission includes members from the three senatorial zones of the state. Mary Gaissa will represent Taraba South, Hadiza Idris will represent Taraba North, while Abubakar Atiku will represent Taraba Central.

The commission also comprises representatives from key stakeholder bodies and ministries. Dr. Joseph Gimber and Hon. Tanko Desgasman will represent Civil Society Organizations, while Hajiya Fatima Ismaila Dikko will represent the supervising ministry.

Additional institutional representation will come from the Ministries of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Justice; Works and Infrastructure Development; Education; Health; and Culture and Eco-Tourism. The Bureau for Local Government, Traditions and Chieftaincy Affairs will also be represented. Mrs. Lilian Peter Victor was appointed as Member/Secretary of the Commission.

Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to the Governor on People with Disabilities, Wanderimam Teyang, has expressed appreciation to Governor Kefas for the appointments, describing the development as a demonstration of the administration's commitment to inclusivity and the welfare of persons with disabilities.

In a statement, Teyang said the appointments have generated excitement within the disability community across the state, noting that the move reflects the Governor's resolve to prioritize the needs of marginalized groups.

He expressed confidence that the newly constituted commission would provide enhanced support, empowerment and advocacy for persons with disabilities in Taraba State, and assured the Governor of continued cooperation in advancing inclusive policies and programs.

The establishment of the commission is expected to strengthen institutional mechanisms for protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of persons living with disabilities in the state.
