Lawyer Commends Taraba Chief Judge, NBA Jalingo Over Introduction Of Compulsory E-Filing

 

 

A human rights lawyer, Barrister Bilyaminu Lukman Maihanchi, has commended the Honourable Chief Judge of Taraba State for introducing compulsory electronic filing under the new High Court of Justice (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2026, describing the move as bold, progressive and timely.

 

In a statement issued in Jalingo, Maihanchi said the reform aligns Taraba State's judiciary with global best practices in judicial administration and demonstrates a clear commitment to improving access to justice, reducing procedural delays, enhancing transparency and modernising court processes.

 

He noted that the compulsory e-filing regime represents a significant step towards a more efficient and responsive justice delivery system in the state, particularly in an era where technology is increasingly central to legal practice and court administration.

 

The lawyer also commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jalingo Branch, under the leadership of its chairman, Martin Milkman, Esq, for issuing what he described as a timely and clear notice to legal practitioners and the general public on compliance with the new e-filing requirements.

 

According to him, the NBA's guidance, especially on the mandatory use of active Legal Mail accounts as a condition for filing processes at the High Court of Justice, Taraba State, is critical to ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

 

"The intervention by the NBA Jalingo Branch will help prevent unnecessary delays, rejection of court processes and potential disruptions that could affect litigants' access to justice," he said.

 

Maihanchi urged legal practitioners and litigants handling matters in Taraba State to fully cooperate with the judiciary and comply strictly with the new e-filing procedures and Legal Mail requirements to guarantee the successful implementation of the reform.

 

He stressed that judicial reforms of this nature deserve institutional support, professional cooperation and public recognition, adding that effective implementation would ultimately strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
