All Set for Governor Kefas’ Grand Defection Rally to APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed Saturday, January 31, 2026, for the official reception of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, into the ruling party.

Governor Kefas on Thursday inspected the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, venue of the grand reception, ahead of his formal defection ceremony. He was accompanied by the Senator representing Taraba Central, Senator Haruna Manu, as preparations intensified for the high-profile political event.

The governor, who recently defected to the APC, had earlier paid courtesy visits to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party's National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwat, at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

In a related development, Kefas convened an expanded joint meeting of APC and PDP stakeholders at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo — the first of its kind — drawing prominent political figures from both parties across the state.

The reception ceremony, scheduled to hold at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, is expected to attract party loyalists and supporters from all 16 local government areas of Taraba State.

Governor Kefas is billed to be formally received by Vice President Kashim Shettima and the APC National Chairman, alongside members of the Taraba State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, local government chairmen and councillors, members of the State Executive Council, political appointees, and several defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Other dignitaries expected at the event include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC governors, members of the National Assembly, and officials of the party's National, Zonal and State Working Committees.

The ceremony had previously been postponed twice due to security concerns in parts of the country.

Confirming the development, the APC State Director of Publicity, Mr. Aaron Atrimas, described the rally as a major political turning point for the party in Taraba State. According to him, the event will witness a wave of defections involving councillors, local government chairmen, and lawmakers at both state and national levels.

Atrimas added that the anticipated presence of top national leaders underscores the strategic importance of Taraba State to the APC and signals a new phase of political realignment and governance in the state.
