Troops of the Nigerian Army's 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have neutralised two terrorists and recovered weapons during a counter-terrorism operation in Taraba State.

The operation, conducted under the ongoing Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, was said to have been geared towards dismantling terrorist activities in the region.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 3 Division, the mission was launched in Takum Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

The intelligence indicated a planned attack on the Chanchanji community by members of the notorious Bojo terrorist group. In response, troops were quickly deployed and intercepted the insurgents along the DemevaChanchanji road on 15 September.

"Troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the death of one assailant and the retreat of others," the statement read.

After the initial encounter, the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists to the DemevaGbudu axis, believed to be an escape route into the Ananumcommunity in Donga Local Government Area. There, a second confrontation occurred, leading to the elimination of another terrorist.

Weapons and equipment recovered from the two operations include one G3 rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one motorcycle.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism.

He reaffirmed the Brigade's commitment to maintaining offensive operations against criminal elements that threaten peace and security in Taraba State.

General Uwa also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence. He emphasised that community support remains crucial in the effort to restore lasting peace in the region.
