Army Commends Gov. Kefas Over Support for Military Operations in Taraba
The Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, has commended the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering support to the Nigerian Army, noting that the successes recorded in the state were largely due to the governor's commitment to security.
Major General Onumajuru, who was in Taraba on an assessment visit, said his mission was to evaluate the security situation, review the performance of troops, identify challenges, and explore areas of improvement. He highlighted that the establishment of Sector 3 of the Nigerian Army has significantly enhanced security in the region, with Taraba witnessing notable improvements in peace and stability.
In his response, Governor Kefas appealed to the Defence Headquarters to extend the ongoing Operation Whirl Stroke to cover states sharing borders with Taraba. He explained that since its launch seven years ago, the operation has been instrumental in tackling criminality in Taraba, adding that expanding it would help to holistically address cross-border crimes and strengthen national security.
"Taraba is currently enjoying relative peace because of deliberate efforts by my administration to prioritize security," the governor stated. "We have also requested the deployment of a drone joint platoon with technological support to monitor border areas. Securing Taraba will remain a top priority of my government."
Governor Kefas further commended the troops of the 6 Brigade for their dedication in sustaining peace across the state.
As part of the visit, Governor Kefas, alongside Major General Onumajuru and other senior officers, commissioned eight Armoured Vehicles and four flying boats to bolster military operations and sustain the fight against criminality in Taraba.
