Gov Kefas, Barr Nasiru Muhammad Jalingo Receive Amana Farmers Award
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, and Barr. Nasiru Muhammad Jalingo have been honoured with prestigious awards by the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) for their outstanding contributions to agricultural development in Nigeria.
The award ceremony, held at Merit House in Abuja, was a gathering of prominent stakeholders, visionaries, and advocates for Nigeria's agricultural transformation. Governor Kefas, represented by the State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Peter George, was presented with the Appreciation Award as "The Governor That Contributed Most to Agriculture in Nigeria for the Year 2024."
The award, according to the organizers, recognizes Dr. Kefas' far-reaching agricultural policies, investments in mechanization, and strategic support for local farmers which have collectively boosted food production and security not just in Taraba, but across the nation.
"This recognition is not just about one individual," said Commissioner Peter George while receiving the award on behalf of the Governor. "It is a tribute to the silent hands in our rural communities—every Taraban farmer who wakes up with purpose and tills the soil with hope."
Hon. George noted that under Governor Kefas' leadership, Taraba's agricultural sector has seen a remarkable transformation. Initiatives such as irrigation expansion, youth empowerment in agribusiness, increased grain production, and the establishment of agro-processing centres have repositioned the state as a leading agricultural hub in the country.
Also recognized at the event was Barrister Nasiru Muhammad Jalingo, who received an award for his impactful contributions to the Taraba State chapter of the Amana Farmers Association. His support, advocacy, and dedication to empowering local farmers earned him accolades from both the association and stakeholders in attendance.
Speaking during the event, the National President of AFGSAN, Alhaji Haruna Ahmad Fanbeguwa, praised Governor Kefas for his visionary agricultural policies and the procurement of modern farming equipment, including tractors, which he said have significantly contributed to national food security.
"Governor Agbu Kefas has shown true commitment to agricultural transformation," Fanbeguwa stated. "His policies and programmes are not only empowering Taraba farmers but are also having a ripple effect on food sufficiency across the country."
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of AFGSAN's commitment to collaborating with state governments and private stakeholders to further advance Nigeria's agricultural potential.
