Fed Lawmaker, Hon A.M Lauya Moves Motion to Address Karim Lamido Crisis

In a deeply emotional session at the National Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Audu, popularly known as Lauya, the Federal Lawmaker representing Lau, Ardo-Kola, and Karim Lamido Federal Constituency of Taraba State, made a passionate appeal to the House of Representatives on Thursday, calling for immediate federal intervention in the ongoing violent crisis devastating some communities in Karim Lamido Local Area.

 

Hon. Audu, rising under matters of urgent public importance, requested the suspension of the House's standing rules to enable him move a motion aimed at halting the escalating conflicts between Fulani herders and the Bandawa and Munga communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba state.

 

The crisis, which has taken a deadly turn in recent days, has resulted in loss of lives, widespread destruction of properties, and the displacement of thousands of innocent citizens.

 

The motion was seconded by Hon. Badau Ahmed Yusuf and Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir, both from Kano State, which was overwhelmingly supported by a majority of lawmakers present.

 

According to Hon. Audu, over 2,000 residents of Karim Lamido and more than 3,000 people in Lau have been displaced from their homes.

 

Entire communities have been uprooted, with no access to food, clean water, shelter, or medical care.

 

The lawmaker stressed the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian intervention, especially as most of the victims are subsistence farmers who rely on seasonal farming for survival.

 

Many of them now face the tragic reality of being unable to harvest their dry-season crops due to the ongoing insecurity in the area.

 

"The situation is dire," Hon. Audu told the House. "These are peaceful farming communities who now find themselves homeless, hungry, and hopeless. We cannot sit in comfort while our constituents are suffering and dying."

 

He further urged the House to called on the critical national humanitarian and emergency response agencies—including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North-East Development Commission, and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons—to act swiftly by deploying aid and relief materials to the affected areas.

 

The lawmaker, even called on his colleagues to appreciate the efforts of the State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, the 6 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their quick intervention, even as he appeals to Nigerian Police and other security operatives in the area to intensify efforts in protecting people's lives and properties to prevent further occurrence.

 

In a show of solidarity and respect, Hon. Audu also called for a minute of silence in honor of those who have lost their lives in the crisis—a motion which the entire House respectfully observed.

 

This urgent motion signals a crucial step toward mobilizing federal attention and resources to bring relief, restore peace, and rehabilitate the communities torn apart by the devastating conflict.
