Rock FM CEO, Taraba NUJ, Others Mourn Worldview Editor Jethro Yerga

The Taraba media community is mourning the untimely passing of Comrade Jethro Yerga, Editor of Worldview Magazine and Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, who died on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Jalingo after a brief illness.

Tributes have continued to pour in from media professionals, public officials, and civil society, as they honor Yerga's life, work, and enduring legacy in the field of journalism.

In a statement issued on Monday, Oloye Ayodele Samuel, CEO of Rock FM Jalingo and Publisher of Taraba Truth and Factsnewspaper, expressed deep sorrow over Yerga's death, describing it as a profound loss to the journalism profession in Taraba State and beyond.

"The late editor was a dedicated journalist who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to truth, public interest, and the noble ideals of our profession," Samuel said. "This is a great loss not only to Worldview Magazine but to all of us who believe in the power of journalism as a force for good."

He extended condolences on behalf of Rock FM, Taraba Truth and Facts, and the wider media community to Yerga's family, colleagues, and the NUJ.

NUJ Leads Delegation to Family

The NUJ, Taraba State Council, led by its chairman Comrade Matthew Eliud Jen, paid a condolence visit to Yerga's family and the Worldview Magazine chapel. Jen described the deceased as a humble and dedicated journalist who played a pivotal role in the emergence of the current NUJ leadership.

"His contributions to the Union and the profession will be remembered for years to come," Jen said. "We pray for the repose of his soul and strength for his family to bear this painful loss."

Worldview Magazine Pays Tribute

In an official statement, Worldview Magazine confirmed Yerga'spassing, hailing him as a pillar of the organization and a passionate advocate of journalism in Taraba. Signed by the publisher, Mr. Williams Ayooso, the statement described Yergaas a man of integrity whose dedication and leadership left a permanent mark.

"Jethro was the pioneer Chairman of the Worldview Magazine Chapel and our serving editor until his death. His legacy of hard work and camaraderie will continue to inspire us," Ayoosowrote.

Friends and Colleagues Recall Final Moments

Numerous tributes from friends and colleagues paint a picture of a man deeply respected and admired. Sulaiman Sani, chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Taraba, recalled an emotional moment with Yerga just days before his passing during the NUJ novelty football match in Jalingo.

"He told me he wouldn't play that day. The smile he gave me as he declined still lingers in my heart. That moment will forever stay with me," Sani said, in a message marked with emotion and disbelief.

A Life of Service

Until his death, Comrade Yerga was also a contributor to BusinessDay Newspaper and known for his commitment to developmental and peace journalism in Taraba State. His work was often defined by accuracy, balance, and a dedication to public service.

Dr. Benard Meer, a family representative, thanked the NUJ and the wider public for their support. He announced that Yerga will be laid to rest on May 8, 2025, and invited all who knew and loved him to join the family in celebrating his life.

Yerga is survived by his wife, siblings, and extended family.

"As we say goodbye to a dear friend and colleague, we pray that his soul rests in peace and that his memory continues to be a blessing to us all," Dr. Benard said.
