Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has described late Chief Victor Bala Kona as a remarkable individual and true son of Taraba State, who has dedicated his life as a strong supporter of democracy.

 

Governor Kefas, who noted that the late Chief Kona played a pivoted role in sustaining PDP in Taraba State, said he would be remembered not just as a politician but a father and brother.

Chief Victor Bala Kona was Chairman of the PDP between 2012  to 2020  whom under his watch the Party was able to sustain its hold in the state.

 

Governor Kefas stated this during his farewell speech at the funeral Mass for the late Hon. Victor Bala Kona held at Catholic Cathedral Jalingo, Taraba State.

 

He appealed to the people to forgive the late Kona for his shortcomings, saying that "as a leader he may steps on toes but we live to forgive one another, as God Almighty forgives our trespasses.

In his condolence message, the Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Charles Michael Hamawa, appealed to leaders to redouble their efforts and proffer solutions to the current situation that bring untold hardship.

 

The bishop said Taraba State and the nation have the best intelligent people in different fields but "our standard of living is unbelievable".

He therefore urged Christians to always take their religion seriously and identify with the religion doctrine which is service to humanity. According to him, religion without such elements is ideology.

 

 In his sermon, the Parish Priest, Rev. Peter Hassan Kamai said death is the necessary end of every individual.

 

 Reading from the Book of Isaiah, 25: 63 and Roman 14:7 to 9, the cleric said the late Victor Bala Kona was a detribalised leader who is very considerate.

Rev. Kamai, further, explained that late Victor Bala Kona died a prepare death based on his Christian life, being generous and a man who encourage unity.

He therefore urged urges believers to prepare for death to make heaven as nobody knows tomorrow.

 

The leadership of the party in a statement, said it is deeply saddened by news of the death of its former chairman.

 

The late Kona, who according to the party was chairman of the Party from March 2012 to August 2020, worked "tirelessly for the growth and sustained leadership streak of the party in the State."

 

The PDP said "his loss at this time of our political journey is sad and colossal as the government and the party that he had assiduously worked for would have continued to benefit from his fountain of wisdom and knowledge."

 

The statement, which was signed by the party's publicity secretary, Andeta'rang Irammae, admitted that his absence would be felt at both the State and the national levels.

 

Late hon. Victor Bala Kona, was laid to rest on Saturday at his ancestral home Barkin Dutse, Ardo Kola Local Government of Taraba State. He left behind an aged mother, wife and three children.
