Flood Victims Abandoned In Ibi, Lau, Karim-Lamido

Victims of recent flood disasters in Ibi, Lau and Karim-Lamido Councils of Taraba State have appealed to Nigerians to come to their aid.

They expressed disappointment that the state government, which ought to assist them first with relief items, has not been forthcoming  several days after the flood disaster.

 The water level, which was recently necessitated by heavy rainfalls, has risen above tolerable limits in some of the affected communities.

 Some residents who bared their minds to our correspondent said the people of the communities are helpless in dealing with the situation.

 Sad that helping hands which ought to have come from the state government were not in sight, the need for the federal government to as a matter of urgency wade in, the residents believed has become necessary.

 Some communities noticed to have been severely affected by the flood the situation which has led to their displacement are Nibolo,Madaka Kiffi,Madaka, Yama, Bandawa, 

 Others are Sanga,Usmanu,Jen,Gorowa, Didango, Nwa-ka,Bwei Nyakwele,Bwei Baba,Bwei Iyaka,Donnada,Doubeli,Lau town to mention but just a few.

 Apart from the heavy rainfalls, the alleged overflow of waters from Lagdo Dam in the neighboring country of Cameroon, was also said to have contributed immensely to the havoc wreaked by the flood in Lau and Karim-Lamido councils.

 At the time of filing this report, some of the victims who spoke with our correspondent during the weekend lamented that no olive branch had been extended to them by the state government.

 Dauda Aliyu, who claimed that all his belongings were washed away including his farmlands, said "apart from this cloth I put on, I am left with nothing."

 Sad that help is yet to come from both the state government and their representatives in the national and state house of Assembly, the need for the government at the center to come to their rescue, they said, has become vital.

 Like Aliyu, other victims who bared their minds to our state correspondent, had similar experiences as they alleged that all their hard earned belongings were washed away within a twinkle of an eye.

 Apart from the various victims who expressed their sadness towards the alleged lukewarm attitudes of the state government, some village heads who confided in our correspondent believed that the disaster will tell negatively on the forthcoming polls.

 Craving for anonymity, the alleged inability of the state government to be proactive, they believed would no doubt debar electorates from the affected communities from participating actively in the forthcoming polls.

 A top government official who claimed that relief materials have been sent out by the government to the victims, said "the state government has more  plans for the victims" adding that "the plans are all  in the pipeline and will soon be unveiled."
