‘Day Ahmed Yusuf Gamaliel Was Cursed’

It was drama galore on Saturday night when a visibly angry Emir of Muri, HM Tafida Abbas, harshly ordered a leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) out of his palace in Jalingo. He then pronounced a curse on the APC campaign leader, Engineer Ahmed Yusuf noting that it was Yusuf's hypocrisy that originally led to Rev Jolly Nyame's incarceration two years ago.

Trouble started when a delegation of APC leaders followed the just released from prison, Rev. Jolly Nyame, from the Jalingo airport to the Emir's palace. Nyame was on his first visit to the state since his pardon by the Federal government. The homecoming event had earlier on become a theater for politicians who jostled to gain from Nyame's popularity. The APC in particular had practically taken over the show as their flag bearer, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, had continuously align himself with the freed ex governor since his release. He had flown with him yesterday from Abuja to Jalingo.

But in an anti climax situation, the Emir alluded that some of those feting Nyame were actually responsible for his crisis, noting that Ahmed Yusuf in particular disappointed him during a crisis. The Emir, said an eye witness, shouted and ordered Yusuf out of his palace on sighting him. Effort to placate the Emir failed as he almost turned back to leave. A visibly shaken Yusuf had to go outside and wait.

Yusuf was the commissioner of finance during the Nyame administration when petitions bothering on misuse of public funds were written. Interestingly too, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha was also a commissioner of agriculture under Nyame.

Watchers of the development said the Emir played a crucial role in the release of the former governor from prison.
