Bwacha Loyalists Losses Battle To Hijack APC in Southern Taraba

Attempts by members of the All Progressives Congress APC loyal to Senator representing Taraba South, Emmanuel Bwacha to install ward leaders in Southern zone during the party's congress failed, Taraba Truth and Facts gathered.

The APC congress which was rocked by skirmished in many parts of Southern Taraba became fierce in many areas over speculated attempts to install sympathizers of Senator Bwacha and Danji SS as ward excos.

Trouble started at the Zonal Office of the APC in Wukari, when some members of the Party attempted to hijacked materials meant for the Ward Congress.    

 

A political pundit who witnessed the drama said "in preparation of his possible decamping to the All Progressives Congress APC, loyalists of Senator Emmanuel Bwacha within the APC are battling hard to take over structure of the party in Southern Zone but the stakeholders from the zone, particularly DSK resisted it. Some of his loyalists including a member of the House of Representatives who just joined the party opposed that the ward leadership should emerge through consensus in an attempt to install new members of the part at the executives at the ward level, these people, who are working for Senator Bwacha wants to grab the control of the party from those already in the party but it failed."

 

Taraba Truth and Facts gathered that the Congress held across the 168 wards of Taraba State witnessed power flexing among  critical stakeholders of the Party who battled hard to reach a compromise on how ward leaders of the APC in Taraba State would emerged.

Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper gathered that the congress could not hold on Saturday as scheduled due to the late arrival of members of the Taraba State Congress Committee of the APC from the party headquarters in Abuja.

A source many stakeholders of the party agreed that ward leaders should emerge through a consensus but the Minister disagreed insisting election of ward excos for the party.

The source said Senator Yusuf A Yusuf is in control of the Central Zone, Chief David Sabo Kente DSK and other stakeholders are in control of Southern Zone. In the North, the Minister of Power Engr Sale Mamman lost his attempt to control Taraba North despite his insistence on going for a contest as against consensus agreed by majority of the stakeholders from the zone.  Two former acting governors from the zone are said to have majority of the ward excos in the zone.

Another source in the party said it was agreed that each stakeholders should control his local government dismissing that the structure of the party is in the hands of powerful few, "what actually happened is each leader is controlling his local government, Senator Abubakar Tutare is controlling Gassol, Engr Ahmed Yusuf is incharge in Jalingo, Hajiya Baturu is controlling Gashaka the Minister controls some part of Lau

At the end of the day everybody is not left out of the party structure which is good for democracy."

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State, Engr Ahmed Yusuf has said despite disagreements between stakeholders of the party on mode of conducting its ward congresses, the party remain united in the state.

 

Engr Ahmed Yusuf who is a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission representing Taraba State said the disagreements shows how democratic the party is by giving every stakeholder a chance to air its opinion on how the congress should be conduct inline with the guidelines of the party.

 

He said the APC guideline made provision for consensus and where there is no agreement the members can go for a contest.

He said where consensus, members of the party must also affirm the decision, noting that the congress begins from the meetings with stakeholder up to the level of decision making.  

He also emphasized that divides among stakeholders is not because of disunity but because that is what makes up democracy, hence everyone's opinion cannot be the same all the time.
