RECESSION: Residents Want New Taraba Government House Project Suspended

Residents of Taraba state are urging its Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, to suspend the building of a new multi-billion Naria Government House in the Kona Area of the State Capital.
Describing it as a misplaced priority, residents who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper lamented that the economy of the state will be severely affected within the recession coupled with the recent looting in the aftermath of the #End SARS Protest.
They argued that Gov Darius's keenness on building a new government house might worsen the economic development of the state.
Some respondents who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper believed the construction of a new government house will further deplete the scares public fund.
They urged Gov Darius to relocate those funds to where the people will benefit more by paying all salary arrears and creating an enabling environment for local businesses to thrive.
"It's a wrong move right now to spend money on building a new government house with the current economic recession in the country, " a civil servant said.
A member of Taraba State Chamber of Commerce and Industry who does not want to be named urged the governor to invest the money on what will create jobs for thousands of youths unemployed in the state, if that money is a channel into building cottage industries, it will be more beneficiary to the state than a new Government house.
"With the financial outlook of the country, the future is economically bleak for a state like Taraba, our focus now should be how to harness our resources to strengthen the economy of the state not building another Government House for politicians. We should channel our resources to build roads that will link up our rural areas so that it will be easier to transport our Agric produce and other raw materials."
"We should also engage our local miners on how to boast exploration of our mineral resources, Zamfara is doing that in the aspect of Gold, we should also do something like that to our precious stones and others. It's wrong to build a government house in recession."
