Taraba lift Jalingo Curfew, as Army arrest 44 over election violence

Taraba state government on Tuesday lifted the one week old curfew earlier imposed on Jalingo Taraba state over the post-election violence. In a statement sign by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Taraba state Hassan Mijinyawa stated that the curfew has been lifted effect from 19th of March 2019. However, the statement said Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state has directed the commissioner of police Taraba state, the commandant of Civil Defence and other security agencies in the state to intensify security surveillance and patrol especially in the flash points areas in the state capital. Governor Ishaku further thanked the people of the state for their understanding and cooperation with the security agents while the curfew lasted. Meanwhile, the Military in Special Operation on election duty in Taraba state handover 44 suspects intercepted during election violence in Taraba to the police Command for Prosecution. Presenting the suspects, Lt. Col. Muhamed Sani Adamu, the Commanding Officer 20 Batallion Serti said the 44 suspects were found culpable before, during and after the Taraba state governorship election. Sani said the handing over of the suspect was in line with the laws of the Army to assist the civil society, he said the Army worked during the exercise that intercepted the suspects in coloration with other sister security agencies. “The suspects were arrested with arms, they were profiled by our own military police attach to us and we are handing them over to the police for proper prosecution” “You will also recall that while carrying out our duty, there was no favoritism, no bias but the sincerity of purpose”
