The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has announced Engr. Aminu Zakari as his running mate for the 2027 election, in a move seen by political observers as a strategic bid to consolidate youth support across the state.

Zakari, a civil engineer from Jalingo, is widely regarded as well connected among young people and influential within youth networks spanning the 16 local government areas. Analysts say his selection could significantly shape the voting pattern of young voters, who are expected to play a decisive role in the forthcoming election.

In a statement personally signed and released on Thursday, Bwacha said the choice of Zakari followed “extensive consultations” with party leaders, stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, as well as youth and women groups across the state.

He described his running mate as a seasoned professional with over fourteen years of experience in public service, bringing “technical expertise, integrity, and strategic leadership” to the ticket.

“Together, we present a ticket that embodies unity, inclusiveness, competence, and a shared commitment to moving Taraba State forward,” Bwacha stated.

He added that the joint ticket is focused on delivering transparent, accountable, and people-centred leadership aimed at unlocking the state’s potential and restoring confidence in governance.

Political watchers, however, note that beyond experience and competence, Zakari’s perceived grassroots appeal among youths may be the defining factor behind his emergence. With a growing youth population and increasing political awareness among young voters in Taraba, his influence is expected to bolster the PDP’s outreach and mobilization efforts ahead of 2027.

Bwacha called on party supporters to embrace the decision in the spirit of unity and work collectively towards electoral victory, expressing confidence that the PDP would reclaim power in the state.
