Key Into Govt Directive on Suspension Of Mining Activities In Taraba- Taskforce Chairman Urges

The people of Lamma in Zing Local Government Area have been advised to heed to Governor Agbu Kefas directive suspending mining activities and wood logging in the state.

The Chairman on Environmental Protection Public Safety And Prohibition Of Deforestation Special Taskforce General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa retired gave the advice when the committee members paid a visit to the district head of Lamma, retired deputy commissioner of police Usman Tanko.

The retired general said Governor Agbu Kefas meant well for the people of the state hence the directive and establishing the special taskforce committee members on environmental protection public safety and prohibition of deforestation applauding the people of the area for their peaceful reception.

Retired General Faransa took the team members to a rocky mountanous mineral deposits site where Tamaline and lithium was discovered in the area.

Faransa said there's no going back in discharging the task bestowed on him and his team members by Governor Agbu Kefas explaining that the activities of illegal miners and woods loggers has really robed the state of the needed revenue in the past years.

Responding earlier, the District Head of Lamma, in Zing Local Government Area retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Usman Tanko welcomed the special taskforce committee members to the area.

The District Head said already he has received a circular on the directive of the governor and he has since acted on it.
DCP Usman Tanko added that although the mineral deposits discovered in Gbele, Lamma has not been explored saying that anyone that invade the village in the name of mining has been referred to the state government for proper documentation.

In his remarks, Chairman of Local Miners In Lamma, Daniel Anthony Dogo applauded Governor Agbu Kefas for setting up the special taskforce committee members on environmental protection public safety and prohibition of deforestation in the state.

He noted that mining activities in Gbele, Lamma has been stopped since 2018 saying that it was as a result of community efforts that mining has not fully taken place in the area.

Daniel Anthony Dogo added that they will collaborate with locals in ensuring the safety of the discovered mineral deposits site in Lamma.
