Burukutu Sellers Embark On Strike Over High Cost Of Guinea Corn In Taraba

The National Association of Burukutu Sellers in Taraba State chapter has lamented the rising cost of guinea corn, forcing them to commence an indefinite strike action.

Taraba State Chairperson of the local brew sellers, Mrs Victoria Peter said local Burukutu Sellers in the State will be embarking on a statewide strike from Monday 17 July, to draw attention to their plights. 

Mrs Victoria Peter said a bag of guinea corn, a major raw material in making Burukutu is now sold above 45,000 naira.

She for that reason, we all want to embark on strike statewide for some days if the government or market people didn't interven.

Also the Secretary of the Association of Burukutu Sellers in Taraba State Mr Ande Joshua said the business is no longer profitable due to high cost of raw materials.

"We want the government and market people to intervene as a matter of urgency considering the importance of Burukutu in our society, being the only source of food to many communities within and outside the state. 
The government and marketers should consider our plight, however, the strike is starting from Monday 17 July, 2023."
