Anxiety Over Plots To Impose Candidate On PDP

 ·         Aminu Malle, Kasimu Maigari,  Mahmud Hamza Join Race For APC Ticket

Fresh anxiety is looming among members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP over alleged plot to impose a former commissioner for Youth and Sport Hon Ibrahim Imam as the party's candidate for Jalingo Yorro Zing bye election.

Top sources in Taraba State PDP said 'powerful forces' close to Governor Agbu Kefas are perfecting plans to ensure Hon Imam emerge the candidate of the party 'at all cost'.

Hon Imam was elected member of the Taraba State House of Assembly in 2011 but lost his re-election bid after dumping the Action Congress of Nigeria ACN.

"Some  people around the Governor who are fanning the crisis in Taraba State PDP wants to impose Hon Imam on the party, they are convincing the governor to stamp this decision but its going to spell doom for the party. It will further cause disaffection among the party if the candidate does not emerge in a fair and transparent primary election," a source told Taraba Truth and Fact newspaper.

Another source added that Hon Imam have been bragging of securing Governor Kefas's commitment to hand him over the ticket of the party for the bye election.

Many members of the PDP particularly supporters of late member elect Hon Ismila Maihanchi are not going to support any arrangement to force Hon Imam as the candidate for the bye election, Taraba Truth and Fact was told.

Mammud  Adamu a frontline member of the PDP in Jalingo Local Government urged Governor Kefas and the leadership of the party to allow a level playing ground for the primary election.

"We are appealing to Governor Agbu Kefas and the PDP chairman to allow the party's candidate to emerge in a free, fair and level playing ground manner in interest of winning the general election because if PDP presents an unpopular candidate, our party will loss the election.

"The PDP should know that it's only a popular candidate that can win at the bye election. Jalingo, Yorro Zing Federal Constituency is a stronghold of opposition parties and For instance, Hon Imam is planned to be give the ticket of PDP but Imam is not popular among the people, even among PDP delegates- it's on record that Imam did not work for the victory of late Ismaila Maihanchi and cannot win at the election."

Meanwhile former Chief of Staff to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon Aminu Malle, immediate past member representing Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Hon Kasimu Bello Maigari and Hon Mahmud Hamza have all purchased nomination form to contest for the All Progressives Congress APC ticket for the bye election.

The APC had commenced sales of party nomination for the Jalingo Yorro Zing Federal Constituency bye election last week.
