Protesting Secondary School Students Not Expelled- Taraba Government

The Taraba State Government has debunk the reports on alleged expulsion of six students of Government Secondary School Salihu Dogo in Jalingo, for participating in a peaceful protest against poor infrastructure in the school.

In a press briefing in Jalingo, the commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Hon.Johannes Jigem said "the report on expulsion of six students is not only false but malicious, unfounded and misleading as no student was even suspended nor expelled"

The Commissioner said indeed the ministry had received the report of students protesting through the post primary school management board, and findings revealed that the protest was engineered by some mischief makers and only handful of the students took part in the protest.

He said "the issue of the alleged infrastructure decay in Salihu Dogo has been over exaggerated, because the educational sector under the Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku administration has witnessed great transformation.Seat and benches have been supplied to all the schools that have been rehabilitated or constructed by the state government."

"I strongly believe that more projects have been done in our schools from 2020 to date and more are ongoing, as his excellency is seriously working hard to maintain standard in education" he said.

However "Committees were set up to investigate the matter and the reports of various committees on the protest will be carefully studied and recommendation implemented judiciously to avert future occurrence of such happening"

Johannes Jigem commended the effort of the principal and her management staff and the Nigerian police, Jalingo Area Command for their quick response to the protest.He also urge the general public to double check facts on issues before putting it out  for public consumption so as to avoid giving out wrong informations.
