Life Returns To Taraba Scholarship Board, Set TO Disburse Bursary

 The Taraba State government has breezed a new lease of life into the state's scholarship board and will soon resume disbursement of bursary awards.

 

This follows the release of the sum of N 50 million by the Executive Governor of the state Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, for immediate disbursement to deserving indigenes, who are studying in various tertiary institutions across the

country.

 

To create an enabling environment for the seamless performance of its functions, the governor also directed the immediate and comprehensive renovation of the board's office complex to give it a befitting outlook.

 

In compliance with the directive, the board has constituted three implementation committees to take charge of the three senatorial districts.

 

These committees were already working with various students' union bodies from the state in all the concerned institutions to generate data of targeted beneficiaries in the efforts to commence payments of

bursary awards.

 

The board under the chairmanship of Alhaji Hassan Bappa, was leaving no stone unturned in the bid to execute the directive so as enable timely disbursement of funds to assist the students cushion some of the challenges they encounter in school.

 

Bappa said arrangements are ongoing for the smooth payment of the 2020/2021 bursary allowance to students of the State.

 

He noted that a technical committee has been set up to update the data of the students for onward payment of their bursaries, adding that the committee is expected to submit its report within the week.

 

 

"Many students have graduated and new ones have been enrolled, so we need to update the data to get eligible beneficiaries before we can commence payment.

 

 

"The Governor is passionate about education and has promised to release the monies in tranches for the payment of the students' bursary allowance.

 

 

"So far, the Governor has released N50 million for payment of bursaries and N5 million for take off. Once we get the data ready, I will approach him to get approval for us to commence payment.

 

 

"The committee is already in the field collating data of students across tertiary institutions and they are expected to submit their report this week," he said.
