2023: Old Muri Province Regroups, Insists Power Must Shift To Northern Zone

A coalition of all ethnic and tribal groups making up of the old  Muri Province, the Muri Project has insisted that power should be shifted to Northern Taraba after the expiration of Governor Darius Ishaku in 2023 irrespective of calls from some quarters seeking rotation of power to the Southern zone.

The group said their position was based on moves by some key stakeholders from the Southern zone of the state who are disguising to manipulate in order to extend their eight year tenure by producing the next gubernatorial candidate in All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

The  Chairman, Muri Coalition, Bilyaminu Lukman Maihanchi, said that the resolution to secure the governorship to Northern Taraba was reached following a closed door meeting of sons and daughters of Muri kingdom in politics held on Tuesday 8th February, 2022 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

According to him, the meeting deliberated on  issues of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Taraba and all the major tribes in the Muri Kingdom, Hausa/Fulani, Wurkun, Jenjo, Mumuye and Bikwin among others are in support of power shift to the Muri Zone which today constitute Northern Taraba Senatorial district.

Maihanchi said the group is  aware of a meeting held in Takum during the commissioning of  a hospital last year, where it was agreed that the governorship seat should be retained in  the Southern Zone in the next election.

He added that the people of the Muri zone are not political cowards, and that since they have in the past governed Gongola State, they have prerequisite skills to lead the state.

"The Muri Zone has competent hands in both the political parties in Taraba State. The recent political fight between the Governor Architect Darius Dickson Ishaku and his best friend Senator Emmanuel Bwacha of the Southern zone is nothing but a disguise aimed at keeping the gubernatorial seat in Southern Taraba Zone beyond 2023. The Southern Zone has already benefited from it's eight (8) years of leadership. Now is the time for a power shift.

"It may interest you to know that the Muri Zone were not left behind even then in the former Gongola State politics talk more of now which we have absolute confidence to govern the Taraba State forever because of our population and capable candidates, despite the fact we have all it takes to actualize same but we shifted the power which now you're planning to retain by all means .
"It is our strong belief that if there is any particular zone that will monopolize and deprive any other zone from governing the state it should be ours. It is no longer news or we're not aware of the meeting held in Takum during the commissioning of Hospital, in which the  plan  for the 2023 coming election was discussed so that power will be retained in the Southern Zone.
"From the reasons we must call on all our distinguish stakeholders , from Muri kingdom and the friends of Muri; Sardauna, Gashaka, and Ibi Local Government areas of Taraba State and the major ethnic group in the Muri Kingdom Fulani, Mumuye, Wurkun, Jenjo and any other tribes of the kingdom not to allowed this drama to actualize through any legal means.
"We also therefore call on the both major political parties  in Taraba State that want to win the 2023 election in Taraba state to stick to calling for a power shift for unity and development."
