Crisis Rocks Taraba Varsity ASUU, As New Faction Emerges


Fresh crisis seems to be brewing   among members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Taraba State University chapter as some lecturers are perfecting moves to start a faction of the union.

Taraba Truth and Facts gathered that more than forty lecturers have signed to belong to the new faction of the Union following disagreement with Dr Samuel Shikaa lead ASUU.

According to a reliable sources, crisis among the lecturers borders on the tenure of the current leadership of the Union and its style of engaging government and University Management.

A Senior lecturer of University said the 'New ASUU is perfecting its moves to take over Union activities in the school.

"Some of us are not in agreement with the style of the Dr. Samuel Shikaa lead group, for instance the Management has agreed to pay about 32Million and some of us believe it's a good start, let return back to classroom and continue engaging them.

"For those who belong to our group, we have returned to classrooms, lectures are ongoing in the Faculty of Law and Health Sciences.  We are getting more of our colleague to see reasons why we should change our strategy, we can't continue to be locking the classrooms and expect us to produce sound graduates. We can solve many of these issues without going on strike. Today, University of Ilorin is a pride because some people decided to fight against strike actions.     

"Also the New ASUU is after the growth of the University, NUC is coming to accredit some of the Faculties and this strike might be an impediment to it, all these were not considered by the Dr. Samuel Shikaa lead group, before weekend we will make public announcements of new developments in related to ASUU in Taraba State University," the lecturer said.
