Disband Taraba Covid-19 Technical Committee Now- Residents tell Gov. Ishaku

•Innocent Vakkia Committee Ruined Gov. Ishaku Efforts in Curtailing Virus

Residents of Taraba State have called on Governor Darius Ishaku to immediately disband the state Covid-19 Technical Committee for failing in it's responsibility to manage the spread of the virus.

The Technical committee which is saddled with the responsibility of controlling the spread of coronavirus in Taraba State had mistakenly released seven persons who tested positive for Covid-19 from it's Isolation Center.

The committee thrown the state into confusion as seven out of the 124 persons released from isolation centre in Jalingo tested positive for coronavirus.

Residents who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper were alarmed by that such costly mistake was made by a committee saddled with a huge responsibility of protecting human lives amidst Covid-19 pandemic.

A Jalingo resident Adi Bulus wondered "how can Dr Vakkai and his Committee made such costly mistake with a global pandemic that threatens existence of human race, how do we manage the contacts of those seven positive patients. It's shows they are not up to the task.

"We are not serious about this Covid-19 in Taraba State, the governor should protect lives of the citizens, this he must achieved, if anyone is playing politics or being selfish such person must be shown the way out."

Another resident Musa Adamu said from information made available from the committee, the unknown seven persons who tested positive for Covid-19 were handed over to local government officials across the state.

"How can a committee saddled with protecting the lives of Tarabans be pressured to jeopardize the well being of other Tarabans, who mounted the pressure to release the seven positive patients when NCDC has not given them a clean bill of health. The committee lacks the knowledge and ability to manage the spread of novel Coronavirus in the state, if care it's not taken our case might be worse than Kano and Jigawa because those people might have spread across local government areas and hinterlands.

"The blood of anybody who die of Covid-19 as a result of this costly mistake and decision made by the Chairman of the state Covid-19 Technical Committee will be on upon the Chairman, Dr Vakkai. He has ruined all the efforts of Governor Ishaku in curtailing the spread of the virus in the state."

We will sue Committee if Covid-19 spread due to their negligence- Lawyers

A lawyer and member of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Jalingo branch said residents of the state can sue the committee particularly it's Chairman Dr Vakkai for negligence if virus spread uncontrollable in the state.
The lawyer who does not want his name in print said the negligence of the committee should be probed.

"The committee has not only failed the people of Taraba State but has disappointed the governor who saddled them with a huge responsibility of protecting lives at a critical time like this. This act of negligence shows something is fundamentally wrong with the committee, it's either they are not capable or are working at cross purposes, the governor should rejig it for effective results to be achieved."

The committee, Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper gathered, has been holding several meetings with a view of locating those that were released from the isolation centre on Sunday, but they are yet to locate many of the patients.

A member of the committee, who will not like his name mentioned, said the committee was under pressure to release the 124 persons even before their results was out.

"They mounted pressure on the committee to release them and they were released before result of coronavirus test conducted on them came out but it is easy to locate them because full documentation was carried out on those released," the source said.
